22 Years of On Paper
First, there were accounts, rudimentary lists in Excel, which frankly are probably good enough for you lot. There is also a CD but as I don’t have a slot to stick it in its not much use to me. And anyway, who is interested?
Hash Cash worked from a printed list of names, based on an .xls spreadsheet updated each week. We used to be interested in run counts, until another hash cash in 2014 or so (oops that was when I was GM) lost all the records.
Names are getting fouler but there were plenty of nasty ones then too. Who remembers Pablo the Goat Fu**er? But also plenty who are still around today (take your pick).
Oh, and £160 in actual dirty £10 and £20 notes! Thanks, I’m off to the pub now. (Actually these will be returned to CH3 funds but may have to be laundered via the bank as I don’t think they are legal tender any more!)
The CH3 1000th weekend took place in September 2007, a beautiful autumn weekend in Streetly and Goring where I remember sitting in the garden at the youth hostel while the pack were on trail because I was injured, though not enough to miss dancing the night away in the local village hall. Lofty’s dog Mickey was GM that year, but he got Blunder to do the barking for him.
In 2008 CH3 joined Hooray Henley 21st Birthday celebrations, camping by the Henley course. Cost £70 covered camping, breakfasts, luxury picnic, debutantes ball and the usual drinks and circles. But don’t try to sneak in at the last minute or it would cost £200!
Venturing further afield in 2008, CH3 invaded invaded France for our 1066 run and went to Lille in November. Eurostar tickets included! With our regular trail on Saturday, Catch the Hare took over on Sunday. I believe the French thought we were mad. Plus ca change…
Offie must have stood in as RA from time to time. You can see one of his hand-written lists of charges here. RAs handwriting has not improved over the years – but at least in those days they could write and did not have to interpret their random notes typed into a phone.
I could have written this about Offie’s hashing year because there are also souvenirs of numerous other events. In addition to those above there were:
And not listed, but sure he was there, the Hash touch Rugby (another Blunder promotions event) at the Old Alleynians, which sadly has since faded away.

Interhash 2002 in Goa will always be remembered as one of the best – “by hashers for hashers”. So, it seemed fitting that following the lengthy breaks for Covid-19 that the hashers of India would step in and host Interhash in the hashing paradise that is Goa – and for those of us who made it to south India, we’re glad they did.

Ryde went to Goa (again). Here are her impressions of a great Interhash.

Lovely pub, lovely weather, but watch out for the wildlife

What the On Paper will hold in future is anybody's guess, least of all mine. By going online we will avoid pulping millions of trees and bankrupting the Hash Banker's employer who was (probably unbeknownst to himself) donating ink and copier paper.
